Love Conquering Hate: Malala Yousafzai

Friday, October 10, 2014, Malala Yousafzai was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to empower and improve the lives of women, and girls, mainly through stressing the importance of education. Through her efforts she has improved lives and given a voice and presence to many who have remained on the margins of their societies, working to educate and empower women and girls to improve their own lives. Let us congratulate and celebrate Malala and the positive impact she is making in the world.

May we each take inspiration from Malala's courageous example, and through similar acts of compassion and love conquer the world in which we live.

The 5 Most Important Things Malala Has Done In 2014

Malala Yousafzai won a Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for her "struggle against the suppression of children" and her commitment to children's rights around the world.

After surviving life-threatening gunshot wounds to the face by the Taliban almost exactly two years ago, the 17-year-old Pakistani girl took her fight for peace and gender equality to the world stage. She created the Malala Fund, which aims to empower girls everywhere through education.

Here's a glance at five things the teenager did in 2014 that prove how deserving she is of the prestigious honor: 1. Malala became a global voice for the Nigerian girls abducted by Boko Haram.

Malala met with Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan in July to raise awareness for the injustice, the Associated Press reported. She urged Jonathan to meet with parents of the 219 schoolgirls kidnapped by terrorist group Boko Haram, and further his commitment to bring the girls home safely. "My birthday wish this year is 'Bring Back Our Girls' now and alive," Malala said. 2. Malala helped Syrian refugee children cross the border to safety.

In February, with help from her father, Malala and other team members from her fund helped hundreds of Syrian refugees leave their war-torn country behind and enter the safety of Jordan. When asked about the risks of danger aiding those refugees in need, Malala told CNN, "It's a risk to all of us if we ignore them." 3. Malala helped young people have a voice among world education leaders.

The Global Partnership for Education, which works in low-income countries to ensure basic education for all, announced in June that a grant from the Malala Fund would support a first-ever youth delegation at a world education conference in Brussels. "I believe all countries can do more," Malala said, according to the organization. "Rich countries must do their part and keep their promises, and developing countries must give more of their own budgets to education." 4. The Malala Fund made a long-term commitment to girls' education at CGI.

At this year's Clinton Global Initiative, Malala announced that her fund is pledging a $3 million multi-year commitment, in partnership with Echidna Giving, toward education in developing countries, according to ABC News. Some of those funds will go toward a girls' education summit this December. 5. Malala's fight for literacy reached her mom.

Malala's global message on education became even more personal when the human rights advocate said her mother had learned how to read and write in August. "Our family shows an example to the world how things change with the help of awareness … and with the help of the importance of education," the 17-year-old said. "My father has also realized that his only job isn’t only to earn money, but also help the family."

There are several ways you can help Malala continue her mission when it comes to educating our youth. Learn more here.

thanks for posting this ava, i dint know Malala story.
what she has done, and i hope keep on doing is really noble, not surprise she go a nobel.
i think though that, in this world, until there are man in charge, who the only wish is to keep the population as more ignorant as possible to then manipulate them better, do whatever they want and to have so even more power and money, the things will be really really slow to change.
in south italy we have a saying : One nutshell in a bag, doesn't make any noise.
meaning....that it cant be just one voice, just one person....we should all do something an invite others to do so.

Malala is an indeed an inspiration to us all;-) she could well prove to be, in prominene and influence, and impact as Benazir Butto or Mother Theresa. Her compassion, her fire, resolve and resilience remind me a lot of those two heroes. The Taliban obviously recognized the power in the influence of her one voice or they would not have attempted to silence it. Even more amazing than her survival of a gunshot to the head, is her fierce determination to continue speaking! Malala's courage and determination not to give up but keep working for freeeom and empowerment through awareness and education has inspired an international movement to provide access to education to those who have been denied it simply because of their gender.

I agree that as long as their are men in power who are motivated by their own greed and lust for power, and who actively work to keep women ignorant and enslaved due to their own fear that empowering women will somehow diminish theirs, change will indeed be slow. All the more reason to refuse to remain silent, to keep speaking up!
While it is true that one nutshell in a bag makes no noise, it is equally true that one nutbag in a shell, ;) does indeed make a little noise; add in all the nutbags on the tree....and you'll stir up such a clatter as to shake the tree down to it's roots...and the tree is toppled. While that may well take generations to accomplish, make no mistake, each and every rattle from each and every 'nutbag' will leave it's mark, serving to further weaken the tree, awakening the next nutbags who follow, giving strength and power to their ability to rattle and shake up injustice and the status quo.

;)
